Nickel Oxide (Green) FAQ

Does nickel oxide have only one color?

Does nickel oxide produce different glaze colors at different dosages?

Yes. Low additions produce light green tones, while higher additions create darker green or near-black colors. Excessive amounts may reduce glaze transparency and cause surface defects.

How does nickel oxide work in ceramic glazes?

Nickel oxide acts as a stable green coloring agent. It forms nickel ions in the glaze, producing consistent color that is not strongly affected by kiln atmosphere.

How does nickel oxide affect glaze gloss and transparency?

Moderate addition can improve glaze smoothness and gloss, while excessive amounts may cause crystallization and reduce transparency.
